College Corner"Shoremen at the Next Level"
October 23, 2004
Baldwin Wallace saw its perfect record spoiled as Capital edged the Yellow Jackets 20-18. Both teams are now 6-1 overall, 5-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Derek Fabry started at defensive tackles for BW and had 6 tackles, 2 QB hits, and 2 hurries. This game featured a bunch of former Shoremen, with safety Rick Strauch, O.L.'s Dane Wilson and John Holleran, and LB Brian Bruce all on the BW roster. Jeremy Guy is a backup LB at Capital.
In other action Saturday:
- Zach Lewis caught 2 passes for 21 yards and John Ramsier had a four tackles, including one for a loss, but Oberlin got clobbered by Wooster 59-13. Shawn Brunner started at tight end for Oberlin. It wasn't all bad news for Shoremen grads, though, as Mark Lightfoot is a backup offensive lineman for Wooster.
- With Jason Schroeder starting at right guard on offense, Ashland U improved its 2004 record to 4-5 with a 28 -21 win over Wayne State. Jason's brother Jon, a reserve running back, had 3 carries for 6 yards.
- Mount Union, where Jeff Strauch splits time at RB, kept its perfect record and #1 national ranking with a come-from-behind 41-27 victory over Ohio Northern.
- At the big schools, starting guard Dave Rehker's Miami Redhawks bashed Central Florida 43-7, upping their record to 5-3 overall, 4-1 in the MAC. Florida State, where Jesse Cole plays on special teams, squeaked by Wake Forest on a field goal. With a minute to play. If only they could make one like that against Miami!
