The Shoremen made short work of Olmsted Falls Friday night, trouncing the overmatched Bulldogs 37-3.  Avon Lake pretty much ran the ball at will, and worked a couple of trick plays to perfection.  The Bulldogs offense never threatened, with their only score coming on a 31 yard field goal that was set up by an interception at the Shoremen  32.  Wyatt Ohm rushed for 155 yards, scoring on runs of 5 and 51 yards.  David Winkel threw a TD pass to Jeremiah Campo and caught one from Collin Lucas on a throwback.  Anthony Thielman chipped in with a two yard scoring run.

Ohm caught the opening kickoff at the seven and returned it 44 yards to the Bulldogs 49. After Winkel hooked up with Quinn Cantleberry for 13 yards on 3rd & 7, the Shoremen stayed on the ground, with Ohm powering in from the five.  Voloshen tacked on the point after, and it was 7-0 just over three minutes into the game.  Falls hit a 24 pass completion on their first play, but a soaring shotgun snap cost them 18 yards.  On third & 28, Bulldogs QB Nick Fritz escaped three Shoremen pass rushers and completed a pass for 24 yards.  Another completion gave them a first down, but a holding call backed them into their own territory again.  After a Danny Disbrow sack, facing 4th & 34, the Bulldogs punted to the Shoremen 22.  On 2nd down defensive back Brian Kurz stepped underneath an out pattern intended for Max Seipel for  an interception at the 32.  Fitz completed one pass for a first down at the 14, but that was as far as Falls could move and they had to settle for a 31 yard field goal.  Matt Gottschall returned the kickoff to the 29, and the Shoremen started on a nice drive, which stalled after a holding call negated a first down run by Ohm to the Falls 30.  Facing 4th & 10 from the Bulldogs 45, the Shoremen lined up to punt, but snapped the ball directly to Kyle Kuhar, who turned right end and picked up 21 yards for a first down at the 24.  An incompletion and a loss of two on a sweep left the Shoremen facing 3rd & 12 from the 26.  Lucas took a toss to the right, pulled up, and hit a wide-open Winkel in stride for a twenty-six yard score.  It’s the second time this year those two have hooked up for a touchdown on that play.  After Falls went three & out, The Shoremen drove 57 yards in nine plays, cashing in on 12 yard pass from Winkel to Campo for a 21-3 lead at the intermission.

Falls lone bright spot in the second half came on the kickoff, when the return man got loose down the right sideline.  Kicker Alex Voloshen finally ran him down and mauled him to the ground at the Shoremen 42.  A penalty moved the ball to the 37, and a 15 yard run put the ball at the 22.  A pass was completed inside the ten, but the receiver fumbled and the Shoremen recovered at the eight.  It took just six running plays to cover the 92 yards, with Ohm sprinting the last 51 after breaking a couple of tackles at the line.  Another good kick return put the Dogs in business at their 40, but Winkel put them out of business with an interception on a fade down the right sideline.  David returned the pick to midfield, but a dropped pass on 4th & 1 gave the ball back to the Bulldogs.  After another three & out, they punted to the A.L. 28.  Two runs by Thielman gained 18, and the Gottschall made a great catch on a bomb from Winkel, good to the Falls 11.  A pass to Sam Klimkowski made it 2& 1 at the two, and Thielman dove in from there for a 35-3 lead.  Both teams played their reserves for the entire fourth quarter with the only scoring coming when the Bulldog center launched a bazooka shot over the quarterback’s head and far beyond the end line for a safety. Avon Lake’s backups moved the ball well, with some tough running by Tony Mango and Brian Sharpe.  Meanwhile the number two “D” held the Bulldogs in check for the entire quarter, to leave the final score at 37-3

(I’m having a tough time getting the stats for this one.)
